This year, June is a month of transition in our liturgical calendar. We begin June with our final Sunday of the Easter season, then we enter into a new season as we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost.
The very next Sunday, however, (June 15th) is another special Sunday as we remember the gifts of the Holy Trinity on Trinity Sunday. This is considered a holy day in the church calendar, where we lift up the triune nature of God - our God who creates, redeems, and sustains us with diversity and relationship. After that, we dive into the season known as the “time after Pentecost” and which is often referred to as “Ordinary Time.” This is the longest season of the church year and lasts all the way until Advent! During the time after Pentecost, the color is green - with the exceptions of Reformation Sunday (red), All Saints Sunday, and Christ the King Sunday (both white). As with the Easter season, Pentecost and Holy Trinity Sunday have assigned texts from the Gospel of John. We will then return to the year of Luke starting on June 22.
